How to study for IB Spanish Exam

IB's aim of a language course is to make the students interactive, productive and sympathetic in that language. Listed below are some ways that will help the students not only achieve IB standard language skills but will also allow them to prepare well for the exam.

1. Understanding the advancement of IB Spanish

There should always be an efficient way to acquire language skills. The foremost thing a student should do is learn 1000 Spanish words. This repository will be the base for enhancing their Spanish speaking skills and help them start putting those words into context.

They can begin by learning 100 words a week and progress over ten weeks! They can also record themselves while pronouncing those words and their English translation. The next step for the students would be to begin learning the most common tenses and verbs that could help construct basic sentences.

2. Read articles

Reading a new language is quite fascinating and has its perks. The students are exposed to a new world of literature and familiarised with spoken and written language. The best way is to start by reading children’s books as they have simple sentences and are easy to understand. They will further begin distinguishing formal articles like news reports, official letters, etc., from informal ones.

A key factor to progress toward performing well in the IB Spanish exam is consistency in learning. Multiple revision sessions will help the students help them in transition from thinking in English to thinking in Spanish.

3. Songs and TV programmes

To make learning Spanish fun, the students need to be creative. Watching documentaries, shows and films in Spanish 2 is a great way to enhance their language skills for their exams. It will only be fruitful when they watch such programmes in their original audio without enabling the English subtitles. In addition, they can explore Spanish artists and listen to their music and further improve their Spanish skills.

4. Writing Spanish

The students can improve their Spanish skills by communicating and practising their writing skills. It will pay off when they work on their assignments. Writing assignments in a second language can be challenging for beginners and it is recommended that they begin researching common elements in both cultures. The earlier they start recognising the concepts of differences and similarities, the easier it will be for them to write an assignment of good quality.

5. Study with a buddy!

Speaking any language is the best way to practice. Therefore, practising talking in Spanish with a friend can be very beneficial for students in mastering the language for their IB exams. It helps them gain confidence that enables them to perceive the language better but also aids them in preparing for their Internal Orals.

The students can also use apps for support such as HelloTalk, to network with Spanish speakers across the globe. The use of smartphones by facilitating a Spanish keypad for texts will further polish their writing skills.

6. Choosing the right resources

Lastly, it comes down to having the right resources for studying. The efforts to ace the IB Spanish exam will only be fruitful when the students have the right resources and good study material. The resources will strengthen the basics and prepare them well for paper one and two with their written assignment and Internal orals.
